While Earth Day is right around the corner on April 22, sustainability has become a year-round priority in the events and promo industries. Trade shows, events, festivals, and organizations of all sizes embrace sustainability guidelines, which has unfortunately pinned swag or promo items with a negative reputation. However, promo items remain essential in creating brand awareness.
Sustainability Demands Promo Industry Response
The promo industry is dedicated to meeting new sustainability demands. ASI, a leading network in the promo industry, has formed an Advisory Board for their newest resource, Promo for the Planet. The sustainability hub is packed with information and tools to help educate and raise awareness around sustainability issues in the promo industry.
Events like mega-conference, Dreamforce, recently integrated a new swag policy at last year’s conference. “Dreamforce giveaways should also be sustainable, the company said, meeting at least two (but preferably more) of the following criteria: functional items with a long life; locally produced; sustainably produced or made with eco-friendly materials like bamboo, corn or recycled paper; upcycled; have a giveback component; or involve experiences like activities or memberships.” Counselor Magazine, Winter 2024.
Consumers everywhere are looking for eco-friendly products in all areas of their life, including business and marketing. In response, the promo industry is stepping up to the plate to provide education, awareness and a variety of eco-friendly products.
Happy Llama Suggests Sustainable Items
Recently, Happy Llama’s client, Reverence Brewing Company, attended Winter Wonder Grass as a beer vendor. Winter Wonder Grass (WWG) is an outdoor music/beer festival that takes place in Steamboat, CO every winter. The music festival has specific eco-friendly requirements for performers, attendees, and vendors.
Reverence’s goal was not only to stand out in the crowd while pouring their brews, but also honor the festival’s sustainability objectives. Happy Llama provided a variety of ideas, including lip balm tins, glass growlers, stainless steel growlers and pints, canvas totes, laser etched wood stickers, etc. Ultimately, the brewing company landed on branded wooden guitar picks and rolling papers made from wood pulp.
Choose Eco-Friendly Promo Items
Happy Llama is excited to be able to meet sustainability guidelines for the upcoming event season. From reusable water bottles and pints to totes made with recycled polyester, the options are endless. Together, we can heal and protect our environment by taking baby steps!
